Diplomatic Visa
The diplomatic visa shall be issued to a person holding a diplomatic passport issued from any country and recommended from the concerned foreign diplomatic mission, to a person considered fit to be granted diplomatic privileges by Nepal Government, and the family members of such a person.
Who is Eligible?
- Holders of a diplomatic passport issued from any country
- Persons recommended by the concerned foreign diplomatic mission
- Persons granted diplomatic privileges by Nepal Government
- Family members of eligible diplomatic passport holders
Application Process
An application must be made in the format referred to in Appendix 1. However, if a request or recommendation accompanied by the details is made by a foreign diplomatic mission or a body authorised therefor, the application form is not required.
Official Visa
Persons on an official visit to Nepal are eligible for this visa. Family members (spouse and children) of the person are also eligible. It is issued and may be extended at a time or several times till the duration of the official visit in Nepal.

Tourist Visa
Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) facilitates tourists with Visa on Arrival. The procedure is quick and simple. You may also obtain a visa from Nepali Diplomatic Missions abroad prior to arrival.

Fill Arrival Card & Online Form
Fill in the Arrival Card and the Online Tourist Visa form (on our website before arrival, or on Kiosk machines at TIA). Print the submission receipt with barcode - valid for 15 days.
Pay Visa Fee at Bank Counter
Make payment at the bank counter (15 / 30 / 90 days). Multiple payment modes accepted. Carrying some cash is advised.
Proceed to Immigration Desk
Present your online form, payment receipt, and passport. The immigration officer will process and issue your visa.
Gratis Visa (Free of Cost)
- Children below 10 years
- SAARC citizens (except Afghanistan) - up to 30 days on first visit in a given visa year
- Afghan citizens - upon recommendation of Department of Immigration
- NRN card holders (issued by MoFA or Nepalese Diplomatic Missions abroad)
- Chinese Nationals
- Officials from China, Brazil, Russia, and Thailand (reciprocal visa waiver)
Study Visa
Study visa is issued to foreign students pursuing academic / non-academic degree and research in Nepal. It is also issued to teachers/professors involved in academic work upon recommendations from concerned government agencies. Maximum duration: 1 year (as per recommendation or length of study).

Non-Tourist Visa
Only foreign nationals holding a Working Visa are allowed to accept employment and work in Nepal. It is issued by the Department of Immigration (Non Tourist Visa section) upon recommendation from the relevant government line agency.

Visa Fee
Business Visa
Business visa is available for investors and businesspersons investing or undertaking business in Nepal. Unlike other Non-Tourist Visas, Business Visa can be issued for at least 1 month up to 1 year or for 5 years at a time. It includes multiple re-entry regardless of the period.

Non-Residential Nepali (NRN) Visa
NRN card holders receive a Tourist Visa (Gratis) on arrival at the airport. It is issued for a predetermined number of days by the Department of Immigration. NRN Visa is issued free of charge as long as the NRN card remains valid.

For extension of NRN visa, contact the Department of Immigration (Non Tourist Visa Section) with the following documents:

Residential Visa
Who Can Apply?
- Persons with international reputation
- Persons capable of rendering outstanding contribution to Nepal's economic, social, or cultural growth
- Persons who have invested minimum USD 100,000 (or equivalent) in an industrial enterprise in Nepal
- Any foreigner intending to spend life in Nepal without carrying on any business

Transit Visa
Foreign nationals transiting through Nepal can obtain a Transit Visa to enter the country and spend up to 24 hours by presenting proof of transit (air ticket).
Application Steps
Fill Online Visa Application
Complete the Online Visa Application form (Transit category).
Pay Visa Fee
Pay the $5 USD fee at the bank counter upon arrival at TIA.
Proceed to Transit Visa Desk
Present your air ticket (proof of transit) and documents to the Immigration Officer for visa issuance.

How to Apply – Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)
Open the Portal
Visit nepaliport.immigration.gov.np in any web browser. Select Electronic Travel Authorization from the list of available services.
Fill Personal & Passport Details
Enter your personal details, passport information, upload a profile photo and passport photo, then click PROCEED.
Select Visa Category
Choose your preferred visa option (15/30/90 days), purpose of visit, and provide address/hotel details in Nepal. Click PROCEED to reach the confirmation page.
Review & Confirm
Carefully review all information on the confirmation page. Use the BACK button to edit if needed, then submit your application.
Pay Visa Fee
Pay the visa fee using one of the accepted payment methods below. Note: If you are outside Nepal, a relative, friend, or travel agent in Nepal can make the payment on your behalf.
Print Submission Receipt
After successful payment, print or save your submission receipt with barcode. It is valid for 15 days. Present this at the Immigration Desk upon arrival.
